Merkel’siz bir AB, Türkiye ile Birlik arasında “de facto” durma noktasına gelen katılım müzakereleri sürecinin geleceği için de büyük önem taşıyor. Merkel gibi güçlü bir müzakerecinin olmadığı ve Türkiye konusunda çok olumlu düşüncelere sahip olmayan Macron’un AB liderliğini üstlendiği bir senaryoda, Doğu Akdeniz’deki anlaşmazlıkları çözmeye yönelik diplomatik çabalar, BM liderliğindeki Kıbrıs barış süreci ve 18 Mart 2016 Türkiye-AB Mutabakatı baz alındığında Türkiye-AB ilişkilerinde olası gerilmeler oldukça mümkün gözüküyor. Merkel gibi bir arabulucunun olmadığı ikili ilişkilerde sorun yaşanması olası gözüküyor.

The European Council condemned Turkey’s unilateral steps in Varosha called for full respect of relevant UN Security Council resolutions. It also supported the speedy resumption of negotiations and remained fully committed to a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem, within the UN framework and in line with EU principles. The offer of a positive EU-Turkey agenda remains on the table, provided Turkey shows readiness to promote a genuine partnership with the Union and its Member States and to resolve differences through dialogue and in accordance with international law.
